Island Grown Initiative works with many dedicated, hard-working partners to address issues of hunger and food equity on Martha’s Vineyard. Here’s how we do it, from the ground up.
Grow more food
Use climate-friendly farming methods that increase crop yields, all year round.
Support local farmers and backyard growers with education, outreach, resources, and acreage.
Teach children how to grow and appreciate healthy food through Island Grown Schools.
Rescue food
Glean unharvested produce from Island farms.
Collect food from grocery stores and markets to share, process, and distribute.
Use rescued food to create free, healthy, delicious soups in our Island Grown To-Go program.
Make food easy to get
Deliver fresh produce and eggs through our Mobile Market.
Feed families through our free Community Lunch Program.

For decades, dedicated volunteers packed food bags to help Islanders survive the winter. Now expanding its programs to make abundant, healthy food available year-round, the Pantry partners with IGI to reach even more people in need.
