Every dollar makes a difference.

How will federal cuts impact our island food system?

Need food now? We can help.

Building a strong local food system on Martha’s Vineyard

At IGI, we work to build a local food system that strengthens our island community, ensures that all people have access to the food they need with dignity, and supports a thriving environment.  Today our work directly touches the lives of the majority of our year-round community, through food access programs and food education for all ages.

At our farm, in our schools, at our Food Pantry, and alongside our many partners, we see the power of food to lift up, connect, and heal people and place. We can’t think of more meaningful, joyful, and impactful work to be a part of. Join us!

How do we do it?

Teaching

For 18 years, we have taught all island children, from 2-18 years old in every island school, how to grow, prepare, and enjoy nourishing foods.  We also provide food education to the wider community about everything from regenerative food production to food waste reduction, seed saving to seasonal eating.

Growing

We grow food for the community at our 42 acre farm, and empower others to grow food through school gardens at every island school, our community garden, food forests across the island, and backyard grower education.

Feeding

We provide nourishing food to the island community with a focus on meeting the needs of those facing food insecurity, through our Island Food Pantry, prepared meals made at our commercial kitchen, school vacation meals program, and gleaning.
